Abstrak | Great Books of the Western World is a series of books originally published in the United States in 1952 by Encyclopedia Britannica Inc. in an attempt to present the western canon in a single package of 54 volumes. The series is now in its second edition and contains 60 volumes. The thousands of topics discussed in The Great Books are organized in The Syntopicon (vol.1) under The Great Ideas, 102 in number. Each of The Great Ideas includes an Introduction, Outline of Topics, References, Cross-References, and Additional Readings. For further explanation, see the Editor's Notes in Happiness.
