Abstrak The focus of the presents study is an examination of the validity of claims for autonomy and secession by minority groups. This will also anlyse the sceanrio of clashes resulting from minorities' claims from autonomy to secession and state refusal to respond to such claims in a constructive manner. claims, refusals and rivalries between minorities and states and how these clashes may result in the continuation of conflicts in contemporary polities are discussed.
