Abstrak Many people see government involvement in family policy as a response to the American family "crisis". Some point to the large number of nontrditional or "families, generally defined as unmarried women with childreen. Primarily on account of divorce and out-of wedlock births, there were te million single mothers in America in 2000; more than one and a half million of these women had unmarried live-in partners. This volume explores various issues related to fagile families. In addition to addressing the proposition that government involvement can raise marriage rates, it contains legal and theoretical perspectives on the marriage agenda, addresses some of the causes and consequences of offspring well-being in fragile families, and considers the importance of fathers.
