Abstrak What has come to be referred to in common parlance as the Anti Defection Law is actually contained in articles 102 and 191 of the constitution as amended by the contitution( fifty second Amandment) Act, 1985 and the Tenth schedule to the contitution added by same amandment. The effort in the present study is to offer an incisive analysis and interpretation of the anti defection law and critical commentary on its provisions. The law has been discussed widely in various fora and still remains exteremely controversial, ill-defined and amenable to varying interpretations.
