Catatan
Indeks : p. 537 - 556 ; p. 499 - 534 ; This book, shows you to draw sociological maps so that you can see your place in the world, figure out how to navigate through it, and perhaps discover how to improve it. It is your sociological compass. This book, differs from comparable introductory sociology textbooks in five ways:1.) Drawing connections between one's self and the social world. To varying degrees, all introductory sociology textbooks try to show students how their personal experiences are connected to larger social world. 2.)What to think versus how to think. All textbooks teach students both what to think about a subject and how to think about it from a particular disciplinary perspective. 3.) Objectivity versus subjectivity. Sosciologist since Max Weber have understood that sociologist-indeed, all scientist-are members of society whose thinking and research are influenced by the social and historical context in which they work. 4.)Diversity and Global perspective. It is gratifying to see how much less parochial American introductory sociology textbooks are today than they were just 20 years ago.5.) Currency. Every book bears the imprint of its time.
