Catatan
Indeks : p.167 - 171 ; p.165 - 166 ; Financial markets seem to dominate our lives as never before. Whether one works in the industry or not, it is hard to avoid the constant bombardment of information, news and comment about markets. At times the markets seem all powerful, passing instant judgements on politicians, business leaders and policy makers and forcing even democratic governments to take heed of their opinions, and sometimes change the policies that were elected to advance. It is perhaps ironic that in an age when governments have anguished about a reduction in nation state sovereignty and the growth of supranational organisation, it is the financial markets that have steadily grown in importance, and on occasions threatenedto become the global masters. In addition to these worries about the power of global capitalism, there has also grown a tendency to believe that markets have steadily become more sophisticated and cleverer than in the past.
