Catatan
Indeks : p. 311 - 316 ; p. 301 - 309 ; This book is an excellent, it is a product of international conference organized by the International Islamic University Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur in 2004. It presents a variety of views from both Muslims and non-Muslims and non-Muslims on the problems confronting Islam and the West. The conference papers highlight the way the two sides are "othering" each other: the West's view of Islam as being aggresive , oppresive and undemocratic, and the Muslim view of the West as being insensistive, arrogant and immoral. The West bases its understanding of Islam of on the actions of states or individuals whose Islamic credentials are suspect. The Muslim view of the West, on the other hand, is based upon the American support Israel, the invasion of Afghanistan, and the invasion of Iraq. The papers, however, do point out the flaw inherent in the views held by the two parties. it is primarily addressed to the Muslim and non-Muslim intelligentsia-professionals, teachers, students, and political activists-residing in the west as well as in the Muslim world. It contains chapters that will enable them to wrestle with the multitude of problems inhibiting a cordial relationship between the west and the Muslim world. This book, containing edited papers presented in a conference, hopefully will open serious dialogues for a just and peaceful world order.
