This book discusses the history of the birth of BI's independence and the dynamics of politics that follows it. Attention is also given to BI's attempts to carry out an institutional repositioniong and to defend the central bank's independence amidst interventions by powers from outside. The struggle became intricate as the socio-political setting of the transition to democracy was often unfavorable for the implementation of the central bank's independence-while at the same time.
