This book deals with the history of these countries in this period of political change. It outlines the situation as it was prior to the Japanese occupation of South-East Asia in 1942, describes the political developments which stemmed from this occupation, and attempts to bring together and to interpret in relation to each other and from a fresh viewpoint the various nationalist movement which eventually led the peoples of South-East Asia to independence.
