=520  ##$$a This book is the culmination of a series of essays, interviews, and presentations over the years. In particular, an earlier essay of mine. "The Politics of the US Economic Sanctions against Iran," became the basis for the book (Fayazmanesh 2003). The essay analyzed the circumstances under which the US enacted major sanctions against Iran since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. It examined the 1979 US freeze of the Iranian government's assets, the function of the sanctions in the US policy of dual containment in the 1980s, the role of Israel in formulating and implementing the sanctions policy of the US in the 1990s, and the concerted lobbying efforts of US corporations to combat the senctions.
