The series is now in its second edition and contains 60 volumes. Volume 21 served the history, philosophy and works of Nicolo Machiavelli and Thomas Hobbes. Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli was an Italian diplomat, political philosopher, musician, poet, and playwright. He is a figure of the Italian Renaissance and a central figure of its political component, most widely known for his treatises on realist political theory (The Prince) on the one hand and republicanism (Discourses on Livy) on the other. Then, Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher, whose famous 1651 book Leviathan established the foundation for most of Western political philosophy.
