The upheavel caused by the war in Muhammedan countries has undoubtely changed some customs dealt with in this treatise,as, for instance, the one relating to marriage, a law having been lately passed in Turkey with objek of abolishing polygamy. But this does not affect the author's plan, which was set out in a systematic manner the teaching of Muhammed himself as given in his book, tracing his enactments where possible to their sources; and the changes we notice are to be regarded as the result of the evolution which time and its vicissitudes produce in the social and religious customs of all people.
