Our hope is that students will take away a basic knowledge of and appreciation for communication theory from reading our text. Over the course of more than forty combined years of teching communication theory, we have learned that students materail best when it is explained in a simple, direct way through a number of realistic and applicable examples, and applies all that we as teachers have learned from our students. The theories in communication studies have roots in both communication and in other fields of study.
