Abstrak | This book is an intriguing introduction to a notorius and disturbing international phenomenon. The book draws together material from a variety of exoerts and clearly explains their opinions on terrorism, allowing understanding, conjecture and debate. There are three parts to this book. Part one presents a definition, deals with motivation (with and added section on suicide terrorism) and global incidence, and offers a typology. A list of contemporary groups will be found there. Part two illustrates the growth and variety of terrorism with a series of 14 contrasted case studies from four continents. Largely 'updated' and rewritten, these now give special attention to al-Qaida and the Taliban, and to the bombing of London in July 2005. Part three looks comprehensively at the topic of counter-terrorism and separates ethical issues and legal provision, bearing in mind their often questionable interrelationship. |
