Abstrak | Great Books of the Western World is a series of books originally published in the United States in 1952 by Encyclopedia Britannica Inc. in an attempt to present the western canon in a single package of 54 volumes. The series is now in its second edition and contains 60 volumes. Volume 38 served the history and philosophy of Edward Gibbon, an English historian and Member of Parliament with his most important work, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. The History is known principally for the quality and irony of its prose, its use of primary sources, and its open denigration of organized religion, though the extent of this is disputed by some critics. This volume is the last of the two part of Gibbon edition in Great Books of the Western World |
